The Buy Box is the single most important piece of real estate on any Amazon listing. Winning it — and holding it — is the primary goal of pricing strategy for most marketplace sellers. But price is only one factor in Amazon's algorithm.
What the algorithm actually weighs
Amazon's Buy Box algorithm is a composite score. Price is the most directly actionable variable, but the algorithm also weighs: fulfillment method (FBA vs FBM), seller metrics (order defect rate, late shipment rate, feedback score), shipping speed, and stock availability.
FBA sellers typically win the Buy Box at prices 5–10% higher than FBM competitors because Amazon's algorithm values guaranteed delivery speed. Don't reprice as aggressively as FBM sellers if you're on FBA.
